Ceanothus 'Edinburgh' - Edinburgh Hybrid Ceanothus

A California Wild Lilac named after a Scottish city?!?  This lovely specimen is a hybrid between C. foliosus and C. thyrsiflorus var. griseus which was introduced by the Edinburgh Botanic Garden in the mid 1930s.  Yes, UK botanists have been coveting Ceanothus for that long.  The first C. thyrsiflorus seeds were brought to England in the 1830s, but I digress- its birthplace may be in Scotland but the genetics are all Californian.  Foliage is fine textured- the leaves are small and dark and create a dramatic backdrop for vibrant blue flowers in spring.  This shrub grows to roughly 8' x 6'... documentation of this plant online is suspiciously absent so we will have to grow one out and get back to you with more details.  Reportedly, this hybrid is tolerant of garden water, which is a rare trait in a Ceanothus.
