Arctostaphylos x media 'Peter Ehrlich' - Peter Ehrlich Manzanita

Description

A naturally occurring cross between A. columbiana and A. uva-ursi from the Mendocino coast- selected by Cal Flora Nursery and named after Peter Ehrlich.  It's a gorgeous creeping shrub with huge, round, grey-green leaves which alternate and grow close together at the stem tips creating a beautiful rosette-like form.  Leaves and stem are glandular.  It is prostrate, growing up to 2' high over time and 6'-8' wide.  Perfect for a full sun spot by the coast and a mild, part sun location inland.  This plant can handle a little irrigation but does not need it once established.  Like the majority of manzanitas it blooms in winter, with drupes of little white urn-shaped flowers which give way to a shiny berry come spring.
