Description
Here's a low-growing selection of Epilobium canum with white flowers that begin to bloom in July, hence the name 'Summer Snow'. As with all California Fuchsia, she's a rhizomatous spreader getting to about 3 or 4 feet wide, but only reaching about 10" tall. Foliage is broad, grey-green, and fuzzy. The lack of color does not stop hummingbirds or bees from visiting the flower. Foliage is a favorite larval food source for Hyles lineata, the White Lined Sphynx Moth among others. A great habitat plant providing sustenance for the insects in late summer and fall when not much else is blooming. Perfect border plant for a white-themed garden, or if red clashes with your color scheme! Great in concert with low growing Arctostaphylos, Artemisia californica 'Canyon Grey', Baccharis pilularis 'Pigeon Point', and many others!
