Ceanothus thyrsiflorus repens var. 'Taylor's Blue' - Creeping Blueblossom

There are multiple Ceanothus selections that have been sold under this name because... well... confusion in the nursery trade.  The one we're selling now (2026) seems to stay prostrate at under a foot tall and spreads very quickly, though sources out there claim it grows to two or three feet, I don't see that that has come to fruition.  This plant has broad, glossy, deep green leaves and an exceptional delicate light blue flower.  It is named for Ken Taylor- famed nurseryman of Taylor's Nursery, as it was growing in his garden in Aromas, CA.  It is said that he aquired the plant from Louis Edmunds- other famed nurseryman of Louis Edmunds Native Plant Nursery in Danville.  Introduced in 1981 by the Saratoga Horticultural Research Foundation, it makes a very attractive addition to the garden, taking full sun with no supplemental water by the coast, but prefering a few summer waterings inland.  Would be suitable around the dripline of an oak, where it recieved dappled sun.
