Description
This selection of the little sur manzanita is very low growing with an attractive glossy apple-green leaf. New growth in spring is tinted orange and in winter it's peppered with tiny white/blush pink urn-shaped flowers. It is growing happily on the slope in full sun outside the nursery-we are about 2 miles from the ocean. I took it home to grow in full sun over the hill and it fried, which is the experience I've had with some other A. edmundsii. Because of this we recommend a part sun/part shade situation if you are not coastal, although there is probably some wiggle room based on your specific site- I have seen this species growing happily in full sun in Sunnyvale. Spreads to 6' over time. Deer have never touched mine, but they might browse if desperate. Could grow around the dripline of an oak, though we wouldn't recommend it in full shade.
