Description
A lovely prostrate selection of coyote brush made from San Bruno Mountain by Bay Natives Nursery. If you've ever been up on San Bruno Mountain then you'll know- boy does the wind blow! As a plant, you'd have to stay hugging the ground to survive that, which is why this form grows to about 2' high and spreads to about 6'. Baccharis pilularis is dioecious, having male and female flowers on separate plants. This selection, as the name suggests, is a female so you'll get little cotton tuft seedheads once the flowers are pollinated. Baccharis are great if you need a tough, low water, low maintenance evergreen plant. It provides a swath of green that adds structure to a garden, as well as cover for birds and bunnies (quail love this), pollen for the insects, and seeds for the songbirds. A great plant for erosion control. Cut back at the end of the year to get a denser and lusher plant next year.
