Grindelia stricta - Gum Plant

Description

This is an upright form of perennial Gumweed . Bright yellow disc-ray flowers sit atop 3 foot stalks of deep green foliage from May to October. This plant is named after the sticky buds from which the blossoms originate. Like most plants in the Asteraceae family, this is a major pollinator magnet, which is its main attraction as it has a bit of a "weedy" appearance. Great in a meadow situation where its wild habit will look at home among grasses, sedges, yarrows, Iris... perhaps some Mimulus?
