Description
This stunning perennial is native to mainly riparian zones in the Klamath Ranges. It is seen growing in streamside meadows and seeps, often on serpentine, and sometimes accompanied by Darlingtonia californica. Basal leaves are broad and a powdery (glaucus) blue-green. A vibrant yellow disk and ray flower sits perched atop long vertical stems. The disk component of the flower is conical in nature, hence the name. Very similar in form to its cousin Rudbeckia californica and was once considered a variety of this species. Works well in the garden- plant anywhere with full sun and fairly consistent moisture.
