Description
A small matting variety of Sulphur Buckwheat endemic to the alpine and sub-alpine regions of the San Gabriel and San Bernadino Mountains (above 1,800 meters). This plant has adapted to the cold harsh conditions of high elevation by growing very low. Foliage is grey and tomentose on both sides forming a mat that reaches only about 4 inches high. Flowers are like little lemon yellow pom-poms which fade to pink or red towards the end of the bloom cycle. Not a plant that we generally grow, as its range is so specific, but it has passed through the nursery in the past.
