Description
Mountain Mule's Ears are showy perennials with broad upright leaves that lend the plant its common name. Reaching about two by two feet, they have large sunflower like blooms in late spring through summer. The brown seedheads can be removed after flowering for a neater look, or can be left to provide food for birds (and humans). In your garden, provide sun, decent drainage, and no summer water. Will probably live three to five years at our elevation; can be much longer lived in its natural range.
