Description

Melics are diminutive native grasses with striking flower stalks in latespring and early summer. A beautiful plant under oaks, they will also take quite a bit of sun. The foliage remains about a foot tall, while the flowers reach about two feet. Water every couple of weeks in summer to keep it lush, or let it go dormant, and green back up with the first rain. Beautiful in a mass, or combined with the native needlegrasses. The seeds are a valuable source of food for native birds. This crop contains Melica californica and Melica imperfecta, two very similar Melics.
