Juncus effusus brunneus var. - Common Rush

Description

This attractive perennial makes a wonderful accent plant in the garden and is especially lovely next to a pond or seasonal creek bed. This species of rush is found in moist places including salt marshes, from Santa Barbara county north to British Columbia, generally below 100 m. On the coast this plant would appreciate full sun, and sun to part shade inland. This particular variety is recognized by the dull brown coloring at the leaf base, becoming much lighter at the top.
