Description

This 2 to 4 foot tall perennial bunch grass is wide ranging, growing in open areas, chaparral, woodland and forest communities below 7500'. In the Santa Cruz mountains it is a common grass of wooded and brush-covered slopes. In fact, it is an excellent choice for erosion control on wooded slopes. The Native Californians gathered the seeds for food. In your garden it can be enjoyed for its ornamental value as well. Give it a well-drained site in sun to part shade.
