Castilleja sp. - Indian Paintbrush

Description

Indian paintbrushes were given their name because the bright reds, oranges and yellows of the bracts have the appearance of having been dipped in a bucket of paint. Sepals also contribute to their color, but the petals are mostly green and extend out into a long beak that envelops the stamen and the style, making it well designed for pollination by hummingbirds.
