Description
This member of the Mint or Lamiaceae family can be found growing in the Bay Area in dry disturbed sunny sites. This plant was appreciated by the California Native Americans and early settlers for the nutritious value of its seeds, known as a source of high energy and for its use as an eye wash. When winters bring plentiful rains, Chia grows abundantly an rocky or grassy slopes, decorating them with purple and blue flowers.
