Description

This Buckthorn is a member of chaparral and montane forests under 6000'. It is found throughout the California floristic provennce, into Arizona and Baja. Give it good drainage, a dry situation during the summer months and shade. Red berries and an oak-like leaf lead some people to think that this plant is an oak that fruits. Can be pruned into a slow growing screen or up into a small tree-like shape. Fantastic habitat plant.
