Blechnum gibbum - Dwarf Tree Fern

Description

The common name of this fern has arisen because the old plants develop a short, stout trunk. This is a popular fern with as appealing crown of finely divided fronds. New fronds are light green and contrast with the older ones. Plants are excellent for large containers but can also be grown in the ground in a moist, shady situation. A native of New Caledonia, New Hebrides. and Fiji in cool and constantly moist upland areas. The young plants are indicators of clean air, they are susceptible to damage from smog. In a pot, keep it's soil MOIST but not soggy.
