The spike mosses are fern allies. These are primitive spore bearing vascular plants of worldwide distribution. This trailing version looks like moss as it creeps and spreads to about 1'. Use it as a groundcover in a moist shady site. When in a pot, Selaginellas prefer their soil MOIST-WET.
