Description

Clintonias dwell on mossy banks in cool coastal forests. They grow from a deep-seated rootstock with a cluster of fleshy roots. They grow slowly horizontally to make more shoots, and with time a colony is established. They prosper with some summer water and are suitable only for the shaded garden. The inflorescence is a raceme which rises a foot or more above the broad shiny bright green leaves. The flowers are a red-purple and bloom in late spring, early summer. They are followed by deep blue berries.
