Description

A lovely penstemon, woody at base, that grows to 1 to 3 1/2 feet tall. The flowers are trumpet-shaped in reds ranging from scarlet to vermillion from June to August. It is native to mountainous areas of California, Sierra Nevadas and White Mtns. to Colorado and Arizona. It prefers full sun, well-drained soil and limited summer water after established. Attractive to hummingbirds. Cut the flowers back as they finish to promote plant health.
