Solanum umbelliferum - Blue Witch

Description

This shrubby perennial grows 2-3' high and 3-4' wide. It can get lanky, so it should be cut back once or twice a year to maintain its shape. Its blue flowers with yellow centers are present throughout much of the year, blooming profusely April to July. Plant in full to part sun. Blue Witch is drought tolerant but likes occasional summer water. It is found locally and throughout the foothills of California on the chaparral's edge. It is deer resistant and its fruit is poisonous.
