Description

The Ashy Buckwheat is native to the Southern California coast and Santa Rosa Island. As would be expected from a plant from that climate, it tolerates coastal conditions as well as hot inland summers well. Provided it does not get much summer water, it is also clay tolerant. An excellent butterfly and bee plant, flowers of the palest pink top the 2 foot mound of gray foliage in summer. Deer resistant, and hardy to 15 degrees. Consider planting it with some of its companions in nature, such as Brittlebush, Sage, and Monkeyflower.
