Attribute detail

Description

Evergreen groundcover shrub with lavender-blue flowers in round clusters, March-May. Leathery holly-shaped leaves are less palatable to deer than most ceanothus (but they may eat it). Point Reyes ceanothus occurs in sandy places in Marin and Mendocino Cos., in coastal strand, sage scrub, and pine forest communities. Near the coast it is a tough groundcover but will not tolerate full sun or drought in the interior. Give occasional to moderate water and full sun on the coast.
