Description

This small tree or large shrub grows up to 15' tall and about as wide. Its deep, clear blue flower clusters are 6-12" long. It blooms later and longer than most Ceanothus, May-June. Very striking when in flower, some consider it the most beautiful of all ceanothus. It is a fast grower but usually short-lived. It benefits from afternoon shade, especially in inland areas. Drought tolerant. San Diego ceanothus is rather rare in nature, occurring in only a few areas in the foothills of San Diego Co. in chaparral.
