This naturally-occurring hybrid is evergreen with thick, deep green fronds under 1 ft. long. Its clumping or short-creeping rhizomes are easily divided. Will grow on trees, walls, or in soil with good drainage. They like moderate watering. Adaptable to light or heavy shade. Leather-leaf ferns occur in coastal areas from Santa Cruz Co. north to British Columbia, often in heavy fog-drip or salt-spray zones. Cold hardy to 10 degrees F or less. In a pot, keep its soil MOIST.
