Description

This fern is found virtually worldwide growing in moss on limestone rocks and cliffs often in moist shady locations in acid soil. Maidenhair Spleenwort has been used as an expectorant and to make the French polytrichon elixir. In the European Alps, this fern is considered to be a charm against witchcraft and other evils.
