Pinus radiata - Monterey Pine

Description

A large, spreading Pine which provides dense shade. It is native only to coastal areas of Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo Counties. It is not always healthy when grown away from the coast. Definitely not a tree for the small yard, though it is often planted as a landscape tree because of its rapid growth rate. The genetically pure, wild forms of this tree are rare, and should not be contaminated by planting these nursery forms near them.
