Description
This evergreen hardwood grows 60-90 feet tall and makes a good shade tree. Dense foliage forms an oval crown, and the dark green leaves are pale underneath. Likes some moisture. Native to Redwood belt, it has many SE Asian relatives. Bark was used for tanning leather. Sprouts readily from base after fire. Tree crown is covered with creamy sprays of little dense flowers June-July.
