Fremontodendron californicum napense ssp. - Napa Flannelbush

Description

This Fremontia grows wild in Napa County. Much smaller than other Fremontodendrons, with smaller leaves and flowers, it grows 6'-8' tall. Late spring brings yellow flowers. Shrub is single-trunked and more delicate in appearance than the usual larger forms. Needs full sun, good drainage, care in transplanting. Mulching with gravel helps. No overhead water, no water in summer when established.
