Description
This local Blue Blossom can be seen dotting the hills throughout San Mateo County, often growing in the shade of firs and oaks. Provide plenty of room for this treelike species. A fast grower, it makes a graceful tall screen, covered in a haze of pale blue flowers in spring. Not considered highly deer resistant, but will grow out of their reach quickly if protected while young. Many native butterflies and moths use this as a larval food source- western tent caterpillar shown above!
