Description

Native to open or partially wooded slopes below 3200' in Redwood and Mixed Evergreen Forests and Chaparral communities of the outer coast ranges from San Mateo to San Luis Obispo counties. It grows to 12 or 15' tall. Blooms April-May, the same time as C. thyrsiflorus, and where you see them together as in the Santa Cruz Mountains, they are a spectacular combination. Can live to 30 years under the right conditions and is drougnt tolerant. Likes full sun but can handle dense shade for part of the day.
