Description

Selected by Louis Edmunds, this spreading form of the Black Sage forms a mat 2' tall and 6' wide. The flowers appear in March to May and are white with just a touch of pale blue, contrasting nicely with the dark green foliage. This species is very sun and drought tolerant, but will also take more shade and water (with good drainage) than most other native sages. It will also take clay soils if there is a slope to the ground. Fast growing, good for erosion control, and very deer resistant. The species is native to dry slopes in the Coast Ranges from San Jose to Baja.
