Description

This selection of the California Bearberry was collected on San Bruno Mountain. It has a widely-spreading form to 1' high by 6' wide. The very dark green leathery, leaves make a striking contrast with the clusters of nodding pink flowers that appear in late winter. Like other forms of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, it is drought tolerant near the coast but prefers occasional water inland. It will grow well in sun or light shade but should not be a first choice for a hot dry bank.
