Ceanothus purpureus - Hollyleaf Ceanothus

Description

Hollyleaf Ceanothus occurs in the northern part of the state growing on dry shrub-covered, rocky, volcanic slopes. The yellow-orange stipules below the leaf contrast beautifully with the dark green of the foliage. It sports the best purple flowers of any Ceanothus. Give it a well-drained soil, and some shade in hot interior sites.
