Description

The Blue Elderberry is found along streambanks and in open places in forests. It ranges throughout the California floristic province. The small creamy white flowers are arranged in dense clusters amd bloom in summer. The flowers are followed by dark blue berries which are edible, they can be enjoyed by humans as well as birds. This is a fast growing shrub with a deep root system. Natural companions include Aesculus californica, Cercis occidentalis, Calycanthus occidentalis and Rhododendron occidentale.
