Description:
The Ground Iris is native to meadows and woods in the coastal mountains of California and the Sierra foothills. As its name suggests, it is a low growing species, rarely getting over about 6 inches tall and spreading out about a foot. This selection from Wintergreen Nursery has lovely deep purple flowers. The Ground Iris likes sun to light shade, and infrequent watering. As with all Iris take care not to bury the crown of the plant when transplanting. Clean old foliage up each fall, and divide if you wish.
