Description

The Red Flowering Currant occurs naturally further north in the state than the Bay Area, but still thrives in our region. Similar in habit to our local Pink Flowering Currant, it differs in having flowers that are upright rather than drooping and - you guessed it - red rather than pink. This shrub's abundant late winter - early spring flowers are an excellent hummingbird attractor, while its midsummer berries feed a variety of songbirds. The Red Flowering Currant prefers light shade and occasional water, will reach 8 by 8 feet, and is summer and fall deciduous.
