Melica torreyana - Torrey Melic Grass

Description

A delicate grass for the dry garden, Torrey Melic blooms early in the season forming graceful culms about 1' long. The seed heads commonly develop a checkered pattern of white and purple that can be seen when looked at closely. This grass does well in shade or part sun with little or no water making it especially suitable for use under oaks. It is found in the coast ranges in just this sort of habitat.
