This is a rare manzanita, found only in the central Sierra foothills growing in acidic sandy or clay soils in chaparral and woodland communities. It is small in stature growing to about 3 feet in height, the lower stems rooting as they contact the soil. It blooms in late winter sporting clusters of white to pinkish flowers. In your garden provide a well drained site with hot summer sun.
