Description:
This is a native blackberry that ranges from Baja to British Columbia, usually found in moist and shaded situations. Will take sun and drought on the coast. Easy to grow with edible berries, but can be invasive if given too much room and water. Western blackberry is not nearly as woody or vigorous as its Eurasian counterpart and does better under garden conditions, but is a plant better suited for habitat restoration or erosion control rather than ornamental use.
