This dramatic perennial grows in chaparral and in open woodlands of the Bay Area. Foot-high clumps of foliage appear in winter, followed by 4-5 foot stalks of dozens of lavender-green flowers. Not as showy as our native red Delphiniums, but a bold and dramatic plant for the back of a border or among small shrubs or perennials. Provide at least 1/2 a day of sun, and do not water during summer, when the plant is dormant.
