This small (3 to 9 feet tall) rare oak is a member of chaparral and coastal-sage scrub communities. It grows locally on Jasper Ridge, Page Mill Road, near Los Gatos, Loma Prieta, and Rancho del Oso. Its flowering period is from April to June. It is usually found on sandy soils, so it will do best in that situation.
