Description:
This subspecies is widely distributed in the interior chaparral areas throughout California. It is distinguished by its grey tomentose leaves, the bark can be grey or red and the twigs velvety. The inflorescense is a dense cluster of between 5-60 flowers. It blooms in spring and then produces a fruit that changes from green to red to black when ripe. It should be drought tolerant when established and would appreciate full sun.
