Description:
Bluish purple flower spikes make this plant one of our most popular natives for the dry garden. The flowers are often a foot long, are a favorite of hummingbirds, and last throughout the summer. It is found in dry chaparral from Big Sur to Baja. It needs good drainage. Fall through early spring is the best time to plant - avoid planting in hot weather or in saturated soil, and be gentle with the roots. Prune occasionally for a denser plant and more flowers.
